Why can't I make a Yahoo chat room?

Post by jarome »

Why can't Adium make a new Yahoo chat room? All the other chat programs can do this.

If you try, it comes back and says that there is no such room.

Adium will make an AOL chart room.

Things to remember.

Granted I to was unable to simply create a room. This was left to the common Yahoo user. If you can recall some of the rooms names. (because yahoo removed the room list from the Yahoo help pages) You should be able to enter a room. However this is not always a assured method. I to have had issues joining rooms I can recall.

Often I feel yahoo doesn't want anyone whom has a mac/apple to enter the new messenger rooms, thus removing the room list from our view.

Here is the main issue I'm suffering with upon entering yahoo chats. The chat text is laggy in appearance, and more then once when i tried to enter text I had to wait approx 2 mins then it was displayed on the main screen. wow what a delay.

So basically to answer your question: If you know the rooms name simply type /join rooms name:1 etc Granted this doesn't always work for me too. I'll get a message stating "fail to join room" room might be full etc.

But then again. I have a feeling Yahoo is not updating as often as I would like Bots are still rampant and spammers are a constant.

Evidentially Yahoo has taken a stand against Adium users as well as other Non yahoo messenger users. So posting a question here to ask Adium to do something about joining rooms etc. could be hopeless. Yahoo is to blame for this or are they?

When we as users, abuse the right to enter chat rooms, with third party programs, We all persons suffer. I am limited to but one chat program now. and its not keeping up with its updates, Adium.

I have tried Fire, even Older vers of yahoo and Adium just to find something that can help me log into rooms I have missed in approx 6 months.

Feeling as if "someone or something" is out to get me off yahoo servers. if i log off I'm unable to return unless I totally remove Adium and reinstall it again.

So just maybe I have helped someone here with some info others are not willing to come forward with. They would simply give up and leave yahoo or Adium, instead of trying to correct these issues.

Adium, you and yahoo need to work out your differences and allow "good Users" to enter yahoo's chat servers. I have even contacted Yahoo and asked them to change their format to allow for room Registerys. By registering with a room Only those persons can enter and limit the rooms size etc. This way bots are not allowed within the registered rooms.

If you need help locating a particular room let me know I'll try to locate the rooms name and give you the command to enter, it at all possible.

This is an Adium issue. I can create a new Yahoo chat room using Trillian on a PC, so it is not a Yahoo vendetta against other chat clients.

I have NO interest in joining any of the standard Yahoo chat rooms. I want to make my own room to chat with my friends.

I miss read your post, however..

Yahoo did away with the so called "user rooms". If this is what your asking about then this is a yahoo issue not Adium.

Yahoo had a court suit brought against them because users (perverts) opened their own rooms and incised young into them.

So simply asking Adium to allow you to create your own room on the Yahoo severs, can't be done. Also I might add, you can create "IM rooms" or "conference rooms" with adium as well as other Im services.

How do I create and IM room or a conference room with Adium? I just have "New Chat" and "Join Group Chat" on my File Menu. The former lets me chat to one person. The latter does not allow me to create a room. I see no other options.

Thanks,
Jim

Sorry for the confusion..

When I invite someone to my chat, seem they are able to include others that I haven't invited. I'm fine with this cause I know the other users. Also I have been able to do this with Yahoo messenger and Fire other messenger programs. But again I think the main issue here is, Yahoo doesn't support User created Rooms. Sorry I misunderstood your question.

I'm glad you cleared that up.

As a "mac" user, I have no idea what the Windows guys are doing thus I would have never known Yahoo messenger would be able to create user created rooms.

So your saying If I get the newest ver of Yahoo's messenger for mac I can create User created rooms?.. Hardly.

Been there done that. Isn't going to happen, or by chance you could post the url which explains this and that explains this option is "allowable" for mac users cause I would love to know this myself.
