New Growl user: Growl/GrowlMail questions.

Post by timmys »

Basically I have just swapped from using Entourage to using Mail and am trying to replicate the Entourage new mail notification pop-up as closely as possible using Growl.

I have installed Growl and GrowlMail and all is working well but I am stuck on a couple of points:

- The Growl notification includes sender and subject info but also includes the start of the message body text which i would really rather it didn't. How can I get just the sender and subject to display? GrowlMail is set to "Title:(%account) %sender" and "Description: %subject", so I don't really understand why it is displaying the start of the message body as well.

- More generally is there a way of getting the growl notification to pop up in the bottom right hand of the screen rather than the top right? This seems such a basic setting that it must exist somewhere, but I can't seem to find it!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there. If you download the beta 1.1, you can specify that messages should start appearing in one of the corners, including bottom right...

I trying to get them in the center, which is not yet possible... :-)

Excellent, I will give that a go.

Anyone have any idea on the other question?

We ship some scripts in .7.6 for Mail, you'll be able to customize those. I'd go with those rather than with GrowlMail in this situation probably.

Thanks, the scripts look much nicer than GrowlMail. The only problem now is that the using the Mail Advanced Script (which looks really nice) when I click on the notification the email it relates to does not open. Is that something that would be easy to add to the script or am I out of luck on that front? Sorry I have no experience in scripting in case that wasn't obvious!

I don't think you can click on any growl notification to do anything except dismiss it. They're not dialogs in that sense.

I might be wrong...

The GrowlMail notification worked in this way so I guess it must be possible somehow unless I am misunderstanding some fundamental difference between Growl and GrowlMail notifications!

Applescripts do not support clickback.
