When I download files using SFTP within Cyberduck, I get speeds around 200KB/sec.
When I download files using sftp at the command line, I get speeds around 1800KB/sec.
Why such a huge discrepancy? What slows Cyberduck down by a factor of nine?
(In all cases I'm downloading large (>500MB) uncompressible files.)

Try 2.8b1. You should see an improvment for SFTP transfers. Also choosing SCP for file transfers in the Preferences should further improve the throughput.
