I use Adium at work for both my inter-office messaging (using Jabber) and my personal chatting (using AIM). I love the feature that allows me to display the currently playing song in iTunes as my status message (especially as "available" in .8beta), but my co-workers really don't need to know what I'm listening to.
Is there a way to specify that AIM uses one status message, but Jabber uses another or none at all?
If not, would this be a difficult feature to add for .8?

Set your accounts' statuses individually?flernk wrote:I use Adium at work for both my inter-office messaging (using Jabber) and my personal chatting (using AIM). Well, not the status. Just the status message.evands wrote:Set your accounts' statuses individually?
It would help on a couple different levels. My "Away" status for my co-workers can be something innocuous like "Not At My Desk", while my AIM one can be more fun (perhaps utilizing the many wonderful scripts available).
The status itself would change as usual (Idle after 10 minutes, Away after 20, or whatever)
No, not quite. The auto-away is universal. Auto-away for all accounts, let's say, is set for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the only thing that would change would be the status message. For Jabber buddies it would say "Away from my desk", for AIM buddies it would say "I'm away /nowplay{%a, %n}".evands wrote:So you're wanting to have the auto-away be settable at a per-account level?
Back to the original reason this would be a nice feature: My co-workers don't want to know what music I'm listening to, but my wife does. My Available status (a feature in .8beta), in my case, would read "At my desk" for my Jabber buddies (who are my co-workers) and "nowplay/%a, "%n"}" for my AIM buddies (including my wife).
I'm assuming, since it's been so hard to explain, that this is out of reach and confusing. If someone has an idea for a work-around, I'm all ears.
The only work around I can think of is two have the program open twice - once for my Jabber buddies (and no status message set) and once for my AIM buddies (with a specialty status message set). As this is kind of annoying, I don't actually do that.
Clearly? I'm confused. If it is clear, please explain how to manually set my accounts to different status messages.evands wrote:Ah. Clearly you can manually set your accounts to different status messages...
I don't want to change the auto-away "granularity". I don't even know what that means.evands wrote:but I wouldn't expect to see auto-away at that granularity. Just too much complexity for too small a target audience who would need it/want it.

okay wat he means is it would be to much work for something to few would use+it would probably be confusing to use
anyways... to set each account to a different status just go to status->the type of account u want the status to change to->click on the status you want and thats how u can manually change each accs status
