Adium set up

How do I set up Adium? I've downloaded the app into my application folder. Now what?

Just double-click on Adium to open it. I think with the version you're running, nothing happens when you first open it, so you have to go to Prefs (on the "Adium" menu) --> Accounts pane, and click the + symbol in the lower-left to create a new account. Once you've created account(s), you can connect them using the File menu, or have them automatically connect at startup.

Adium should open the preferences for you the first time you open it, and it will even open it right in the Accounts prefs so that you can add your first account from there.

Is the "user name" the full email address of the person I want to connect to? When I type the email address in to "User name", and hit connect, Adium asks me for a password. Do I use my hotmail password (it's for the MSN network)? When I type in the hotmail password, Adium asks me over and over for the password. I know I'm typing in the correct password. I set up an MSN Messenger acct, and it seems to work fine.

When you're connecting, you want to use the email address that you used when you signed up to MSN/.net/Passport (it's called various things). So yeah, your username should end in @hotmail.com (though not necessarily), and use the password that you would use on on MSN Messenger.

Once you're connected to an account, Adium should read that account's buddy list so you can automatically start seeing and talking to your friends.

You should enter your MSN passport password. Im not sure if this is the same as your Hotmail password..
