help with applescript & mail

I've been using a script that I bodged together using code samples found here and there; it's somewhat similar to mailgrowler, but is triggered by a rule match.

It works OK, but there are a couple of improvements I'd like to make, and would appreciate any guidance y'all can offer:

1. Clicking on the growl notification opens the message in Mail.

2. If the sender has an avatar pic in my address book, show that (this seems like it would be complicated, and is hardly critical).
