The installer for 1.1.1 is now installing 0.76
AS OF saturday night!
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I downloaded 1.1.1 and it leaves me with the 0.76 pref pane, and no matter what I do it keeps telling me there's a new version out. I tried removing the preference pane, thinking that it just wasn't getting updated, and now I don't get a preference pane at all when I run the installer.
This is all on my MBP, trying to go from 0.76 to 1.1.1. I had no problems going from 0.76 to 1.1 on my iMac.
EDIT: OK, I figured out the solution. The 1.1.1 installer WAS NOT INSTALLING A PREFERENCE PANE. It was leaving the old one in place (or in my case, leaving me with no pref pane at all since I manually removed the old one). I had to go into the /Library/PreferencePanes/ folder and copy the Growl.prefPane into my /Users/myusername/Library/PreferencePanes/ folder. Now I have the new preference pane.

Has it been fixed yet??
I'm reluctant to run 1.1.1 until it is fixed can someone let me know?
So, I'm reluctant to assist anymore until you guys tell us what installer. Is it the one that we have on http://growl.info, or the one that ships with Adium?
Hi Tick!
The one on http Growl. This all happened when you tried to help someone that notified you that 1.1.1 was not available and you said "I'll fix that." Subsequent to that although the installer said 1.1.1 we all got 0.76. It is the update within 0.76 preference pane itself that you click when you want to update growl.

Where, exactly are you looking then?jazzyguy wrote:The one on http Growl. This all happened when you tried to help someone that notified you that 1.1.1 was not available and you said "I'll fix that." The link I fixed was the link that was pointing to 1.1, that I changed to point to 1.1.1. That's what I said I would fix.
This is so simple to explain to you
The download link is right there on the Growl web site. It says 1.1.1 If you attempt to download from it a DISK IMAGE comes up on your desktop of 1.1.1 After clicking the instaler and putting in your password the installer does its thing and it says the software was sucessfully installed.BUT nothing changes you still get 0.76 as the other user stated it DOES NOT PUT IN A PREFERENCE PANE as it should.
OK!
The Macs that were not able to install 1.1.1 were my 3 Powerbooks and my iMac all PPC and having 10.4.10 . I just checked the iMac and in ~/library/preferencepanes it has 0.75 in /library/preferancepanes it has1.1 not 1.1.1 Strange that it shows in~ 0.75 when the actual version is 0.76.
OK!
I deleted the one in ~/library/preferencepanes and moved the one in/library/preferencepanes to ~. Should I copy the one in ~ to my/Library/preference panes?
I copied the one in ~to /
But now I have 2 Growl Helpers in my log in items. Should I delete one or should I delete the Growl preference Pane in /?
Ok I think I answered my own question
When I deleted the one in my user library then I don't need the one there I can use the one in my /Library the other one is unnecessary. Am I correct?
Only one Problem remains
I used to have 2 Growl start up items Growl Menu and Growl Helper App I now have just one,Growl Helper App
Just my 2 yen, and not that you asked, but my problems disappeared when I nuked EVERYTHING.The_Tick wrote:Let's do this. Remove the login items, remove the prefpanes, and then reinstall Growl.

Tick... is there any way for you guys to make the installer nuke all assets from all known places? This would eliminate all cruft from previous installs, which to me, was the cause for my problems with an old growlview 'sound' that never got uninstalled.
I had to nuke everything to get my problem solved. It would probably be nice[r] for the end users if the included uninstaller did this. Not an 'Easy' button but a 'nuke all growl assets, preferences, etc' one.
Again, just my 2 yen.
This is not an acceptable way for us to do things. Yes, it'll fix things, but it's like taking a shotgun, pointing it at a snail, and hoping to god the snail dies when you pull the trigger.leoofborg wrote: Tick... is there any way for you guys to make the installer nuke all assets from all known places? I would prefer that we have a way for the problematic things that people run into not happen in the first place. I also do not believe that the problem that you had is the same problem that these folks are having.
