Annoying Expose

Post by ComSubVie »

Since the current update the Adium contact list disappears when expose is executed. I've read that this is a new feature, however I would say it is a bug (disabling a feature to solve a bug (#7862) is not a solution but a bad workaround). Adium's functionality to ignore expose was great, but when the contact list vanishes during expose it is simply annoying.

I would at least expect some trigger in the settings to re-enable this functionality, but not changing code and recompiling to get a feature which worked great in the old version. This is not userfriendly.

This functionality will very likely not be returning. It was hackish, and Spaces broke it entirely.

If you want your contact list to show up normally in Exposé, set it to display normally (not below other windows).

If you want your contact list to stay out of the way except when you want it, I suggest you use auto-hiding on a side of your screen.

I understand that Spaces compatibility is probably more useful to more users, but I really do miss that feature. It was so incredibly nice to have it permanently fixated on your desktop.

I miss it as well - having the contact list and your background appear on demand at the same time was the cool part of showing off Adium and OSX together. A side docked contact list seems so typical and boring.

I fully acknowledge that!

@zac: As I said, I don't understand why this feature is completly removed, all other things are possible to activate/deactivate in the settings, but to get the contactlist back on the desktop in "view desktop" expose I have to recompile? That doesn't make sense.
And for your suggestions: I prefer to adapt an application to my needs (as it was before) and not my needs to the application.

No other settings are as destructive as the ignore exposé is toward Spaces. If someone fixes it, it'll be reintroduced. As it stands now, it's too problematic.

well the last version of Adium... 1.14 (i think) still has the ability to stay on the desktop. I don't use Spaces...so I guess I will be sticking with the older version until someone can figure out a solution...
