force send message?

Post by Christoph »

hello just a quick question and i have done a quick search so forgive me if this is a double post.

In previous versions of adium i remember being able to type a message to a contact even if they were offline.

the response was a pop up telling you that the contact was not available but that you could force send the message which would try to send the message anyways and if that didnt work send the message to the person as soon as they got on.

Because of time differences i used this to send messages to people that they would get when they signed on even if i wasnt around but still signed on. Has this feature been removed or changed? now when i try to send a message to an offline contact i just get a grayed out text stating that the message could not be sent.

any info would be helpful thanks.

On what messaging service(s) are you seeing this problem? (The feature is still there and has not changed, but if the service thinks it can send an offline message directly but then fails to do so, that error might occur).
The duck still burns.

Success!!!!!! post accepted !
not to be rude but that 'restriction' has to be the most retarded restriction I've seen ever on a board. It caused me spamming the board with two totally useless posts just to be able to post my original and hopefully useful request.

Anyway, enough about that... following is my original post I tried to submit:
- - - - - - - - - -

I have the same request.

Say you have a friend that is getting nagged by others and wants to log on MSN but be in 'invisible' mode and appear offline.

This person IS online, and you know he is online and want to send him a message using adium... this is impossible.

Send him a message and you get the error: "Could not send because xxxxxxx@hotmail.com is not available."

It doesn't even try to send it, it just refuses to even attempt.

If you then pick up the phone, call your friend, have him send you a message first then you can write to him back without issues ( as long as you don't have any breaks, but continue writing continuously with at most a couple minutes between message) . But only if the contact was initiated by him first.
Also, if you then go away for 5 minutes and want to continue the conversation, you will get the same error again: "Could not send because xxxxxxx@hotmail is not available."

Pick up the phone and call him again.

Rinse, Repeat and all that.

Please Please PLEASE fix this.... this bug has been present since day 1 I think. Never got around to complain until today :)

thanks

This ("can not message invisible MSN users") is, I'm told, fixed in current trunk (for 1.2).
