Copy & paste emoticons

Post by melon »

I'm sorry if this has already been asked of or is already being implemented, but I can't find anything on it in this forum so I'll ask.

Is it at all possible to include a feature whereby it's possible to copy text in the message window and paste, but the emoticions in that selection are also copied so pasting back they also show up?

In Trillian (sorry, you devs must hate that word) the copied emoticon is what was typed so "blah blah yeah and I was on a goat :D (devil)" would be what's copied into the computer's clipboard.

Another minor thing, is it possible to have a tooltip where you mouseover an emoticon and you can see what text the user has used to form it? i.e you place the cursor over Image and you see (devil) in a tooltip.

Not sure how difficult that is to implement but it's another Trillian feature. Handy (at least to me) as Trillian has so many emoticons so I don't actually know them all, but if someone messaged me a emoticon that I don't know of (the key combinations for it) then I can just check what it is with a simple mouse over.

Thanks Image

Click the emoticon. It'll become the original text which made it... and copying with it showing the original text will copy it as text.

Ah cool thanks for that tip. Lots of undocumented stuff in Adium which is also not very intuitive, but I guess it's still in it's pre 1.0 stage.

Thanks again.

Well, this particular feature is just a sort of hidden bonus, not intended to be used very much. It would be a better idea to automatically copy the "alternate text" for any images in the message view.

Don't believe we have control over that, but would love to be shown wrong :)

"It would be much better" != "It's possible" ;)
