growl acting weird

I'm having trouble with my Growl. I only use it for received message notifications. It worked great and then suddenly started only half showing-up, so when a growl message is displayed, I can see the sender and his/her icon, but I can't see any of the text. Sometimes there's the whole box, and the text just doesn't show, and sometimes there's a blank rectangle where the text should be.

I've tried adjusting my preferences, but I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling anything yet. I was wondering if there's any quick way I could fix this?

I'm running a Macbook OS X, intel core duo, but I have no Logitech anything, which seems to be problematic with growl.

What version of Mac OS X?
What version of Growl?
What display style(s)?

I have OS X 10.4.11, and my display style is smooth operator. How do I see what version of growl I have? I can't find it
