Why are chat participants on the left now?

In the most recent update (1.2) group chat has the chat participants panel on the left... it is awkward... it used to be on the right. Is there a way to move it? What was the reason for this? just curious.

I join kalalalani. The contacts list on the left side is ugly and uncomfortable.

The intent of this was to be consistent with sidebars in Mail, Finder, iChat, etc...
