Adium becoming unusable with AIM...

Post by Spartan »

I am using Adium 0.77 with OS X v10.3.8 in place of iChat. Adium has recently become almost impossible to use with AIM. What happens is while all signs point to everything being fine (I can view my contact list, send messages to them with no errors, etc.), I appear offline to everyone and none of my messages will get through. This can usually be remedied by restarting Adium. Unfortunately, I have no idea when this happens since everything looks normal to me. It is only when nobody responds do I restart, just to find out from them that I was offline. I can't pinpoint exactly when this started, but it definitely has been since the release of 0.77 (although not necessarily right after installing the newest release). Thanks for any help, I do hope we can get to the bottom of this, Adium is great (when it works).

I posted regarding this issue as well, although I described it as a delay between sending and receiving on both ends of the conversation. My windows using friends tell me that I keep signing on and off rapidly even though everything appears to be fine for me. If anyone out there has any idea how to fix this I'd be eternally grateful.

While I'm not aware of any 0.77 issue which reports as this, please try the 0.80 beta and see if your problems continue.... so much has changed since the .7x series that it's hard to say offhand if this is already fixed or not.

Thanks :)

Thanks for the link, I will download the beta tonight.

Also, I have one more question. I am fairly new to Macs and OS X, and I would like to completely remove Adium before I install this beta. But, I don't want to search "Adium" and start randomly deleting whatever files pop up. Could someone please tell me what I should delete where? Thanks again.

Something that you'll find you your liking about OS X is that applications don't install things all over the place on your hard drive. The only things belonging to Adium are the application, the Adium 2.0 folder located in ~/Library/Application support, and the files "com.adiumX.adiumX.plist" and "com.adiumx.crashReporter.plist" located in ~/Library/Preferences.
