MSN nicknames gone

Post by ipluto »

After updating to 1.3b5, I was able to view MSN users' custom messages. However, their nicknames disappeared and only an alias I assigned to them is shown.

For example, for a contact has set his nick name to AAA, his custom message set to BBB, and I rename him as CCC in the Alias field of contact info.

Before the support of custom messages, his name will appear as CCC - AAA in the contact list.

Now I only see CCC - BBB, namely his own nickname is gone.

If I delete the Alias I assigned to him, his name will appear as AAA - BBB, like in PC MSN messenger. But that will lose the point of renaming contacts.

Is there a way to fix this? I would prefer having the contacts displayed as CCC - AAA - BBB, if that's not possible, CCC - AAA is fine.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

(I use a PowerbookG4 with 10.4.11)

You can either show the name that your contact has provided (AAA) or show your own (CCC) in the contact list, but not both.

However, it is a bug of sorts that you aren't able to find out the name your contact provided (AAA) through other means.

Does AAA show up in the tooltip when you hover over the contact in the list? Does it show up in the Get Info window?
The duck still burns.

Yes, both nicknames and custom status are shown when mouse is hovered over a contact. But being able to view directly in the contact list would be better. Also, Growl notification only display what's on the contact list, meaning only my assigned Aliases and contacts' custom statuses popped up.

I was just hoping to show only the Aliases I gave them and their own nicknames in the contact window, like in the older versions of Adium, before custom status is supported. After all, showing the Aliases helps locate contacts, and their nicknames usually contain more important informations than their custom statuses. Being able to customize what to display would be really nice.

If that's not an option, is there a way I can remove all Aliases I assigned to the contacts? Removing one by one would be a lot of work.

Thank you.
