Cannot connect to ICQ
Cannot connect to ICQ
Hi there,
I use Adium for some years now and it worked flawlessly so far. When I tired to log on tonight I received this Error message:
Error: The client version you are using is too old. Please upgrade at http://pidgin.im/
However I use the newest version of adium (april 29th 2008). Anyone has the same kind of problems? I wonder what that is. Help is highly appreciated
Thanks
hagge

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
Confirmed. I can't connect, too, and I'm getting the same error message. I use version 1.2.5.
Any suggestions?

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
I am also using Adium 1.2.5 and am seeing the same error message when trying to connect to ICQ as of today.
Adium is such a terrific piece of software to use, I hope this is fixed soon.

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ

I upgraded today to 10.5.4 maybe it has something to do with that?

please help

Can't confirm that. I'm still at 10.5.3 and get the same error message.meosoft wrote:yes, the same here:

If someone from the Adium-devteam is reading this, would you be so kind to comment on the issue described here?
Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
okay I just heard that many people have this problem and it seems rather a network problem than an Adium specific one.
So we should just wait a couple of hours and see what happens.

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
Same problem here, worked for weeks without a problem, today it suddenly stopped. Could it be that the ICQ/AIM-servers reject clients with a too old protocol version since today?

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
It's definitive a login problem of the network/server. I logged in this morning, disconnected in the afternoon, tried to reconnect 15 minutes later and got the error.
It also doesn't seem to be a 10.5.4 problem. I've got two machines here, one with 10.5.4 and one still on 10.5.3. Logged on with 10.5.4 this morning, no problem. Can't connect with either now.

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
Hi,
I also think that it is a network related problem.
Pidgin running on different Linux distributions had the same problem today (Adium is using Pidgin resources too, right?). Strangely an ancient Gaim had no problems logging on and off the ICQ network...?!

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
It`s not an Adium trouble, QIP IM(win) also not connecting.
btw adium error window says - go to pidgin.im, pidgin.im says - go to adiumx.com and download Adium(which says you to go to pidgin.im) Heh
official ICQ client works on win

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
I googled a little and it seems nearly every client can't connect, ... except ICQ 6. There are even people on the ICQ forums complaining they can't connect with ICQ 5.x ... so it seems, it is not a network problem. ICQ/AOL is forcing it's users to upgrade to a newer client version, and on the way, they blocked all non official clients.
BTW: ICQ2Go does work, so there's a short time workaround. Also it's not what I'd prefer ...

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
I don't know but my brother is on QIP and his is working properly, but I with Adium I have been experiencing trouble connecting for some time, it refused my password or failed to connect but that seemed like an ICQ protocol problem..kanapfelka wrote:It`s not an Adium trouble, QIP IM(win) also not connecting.

Re: Cannot connect to ICQ
The 1.2.6 update fixed it for me.
However, I can't change my buddy icon on Adium. Got around it by using ICQ to go (the web client) and then logging back in Adium. Haven't tried changing it again using Adium though, but it doesn't really matter. Adium rocks! Thanks adium devs.
