I apologize if this is clearly stated in some documentation somewhere that I haven't been able to locate. If so, just point me in its direction.
I'm using 1.3b11 on 10.4.11. I'm signed into my aim, .mac, mobileme, yahoo, gmail, and facebook accounts, but I was never able to see any facebook people. So I signed in only to facebook, disabling the others, and then I was able to see some people, but it may have been as a result of my online/offline status in chat on the actual facebook website.
What is the relationship/dependency between Adium's facebook account and the Facebook website? Do I need to be online and logged into the website for facebook to work through adium, or can I be logged out (and offline) on Facebook but still use its chat through Adium? The trickiest one would be if I were logged into Facebook, but offline in their chat, but attempting to Facebook chat through Adium.
Again, sorry if that's a really dumb question, but I'm trying to squeeze every last drop out of the sexiness that is Adium.
Thanks,
Brad
How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
Re: How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
you can't be logged on on facebook (the website) at the same time (that isn't to say you have to log out, just don't have facebook open)
other then that it works fine for me (other then occasionally never logging back in when I wake my laptop from sleep)

Re: How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
Okay, so normally I'm always logged into Facebook, and sometimes I have it open in a tab in firefox, other times not. I'll be sure to not have it open when I want to use Facebook chat through Adium.
So if I do open Facebook.com and have chat sign-on through the website, I would auto disconnect from its chat in Adium? And is the reverse true; I close Facebook.com, Adium is then able to reconnect me to facebook's chat? (When I close the window/tab of Facebook.com, that would sign me out of its chat, and then I'd be free to get back on through Adium, correct?)
Sorry, I'm so totally stupid, and it's 2:30 in the morning...

Re: How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
Make sure you DISCONNECT Facebook chat in Adium before logging in to the Facebook web interface. Adium will repeatedly log you out from Facebook (web) if it's connected.
Re: How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
Okay, I think I got it. If I don't have Facebook open (even if Firefox is just hidden), then everything is totally cool with Adium. If I have Facebook open, then launch Adium or connect to Facebook Chat through Adium, I knock myself out of Facebook as a result.
The problem scenario seems like when I am already signed into Facebook Chat through Adium, then open Firefox and sign into Facebook. This knocks me out of Facebook Chat in Adium, but I am then unable to sign back in to Facebook Chat in Adium later, even after having closed/signed-out Facebook the website. Is this last bit likely similar to smartalco's experience with connection after waking his laptop from sleep?

Re: How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
(this might be answered elsewhere, but i couldnt find it)
If you're logged out for the facebook chat web interface (permanently)
could you theoretically be logged into the website and use it as normal?
I mean, I still haven't gotten the chat to work on my side but it appears I'm logged in just fine.
I guess I have to manually add users by e-mail address and not expect the friends list to populate itself as the web interface does automatically. (?)

Re: How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
Whenever I download a new build (or Facebook changes something), I have the situation described above, where I can't be logged into Facebook and Facebook-Chat-in-Adium at the same time. But after a couple days of using a build, this goes away and I can browse Facebook endlessly without logging out while Facebook Chat is open in Adium. It's happened like this with several different builds. Is this supposed to happen? (I like it like this, of course, but it seems curious.)
Re: How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
when you're getting both to work at the same time, is Facebook Chat open on the Facebook web page? Or are you signed out of Facebook Chat on the website, but signed on through Adium?
Re: How is Facebook chat supposed to work?
Once both work: I sign on to Facebook Chat through Adium. Then I typically check my Facebook. The first time, as usual, I have to log in. But then I stay logged into Adium and, over a period of several hours, never have to reenter my password for Facebook despite repeated visits.
As I said, this doesn't usually work right when I first install a version, but after a day or two, it works just fine. (Which is fine by me, I much prefer to be logged into both at the same time.)
I'm on Leopard, using (right now) Adium X 1.3b11 on a Macbook Pro.
