Adium Virus (on MSN)

Post by Atmosphere »

I got a message from a friend via MSN which was simply a link. Now i know she's also running Adium - and she was aware of the "virus" and therefore went to extreme measures and actually purchased Norton Antivirus for Mac.

However, the "virus" is still broadcasting.

my username on my MSN is Atmosphere@XXXXXXX.com and the messages she sends me include:
http://atmosphere.imagedescription.com:6264
http://atmosphere.i-l0ve-u.com
(and a few others which i'm unable to list due to a restriction on this site)

Is this the same kind of "server" related virus which automatically speaks to contacts from the server?

Will my suggestion for her to install Adium Beta and sending the Logs here help in any way?
Personally i'm not quite keen on installing any kind of Antivirus as i don't believe there are enough viruses out there to warrant that.

Your friend probably signed into a webpage with their MSN credentials, allowing the scammer to utilize it to send messages. Have them change their password.

this happened to me too, and now the msn portion of Adium quits, saying I've logged on to another location, but I haven't.

How can I correct this, or delete the other information?

thanks,
Dave

Change your password and never give it away to any website other than the official MSN website.

yeah, I tried finding where that was stored and can't figure out where to change it. It's not at my msn account that I can tell, unless they both use the same PW

Well, whatever service it's happening on, change that service's password at their official website.

http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/AboutAdium has a link to all of the services' webpages.

Waste of money. AFAIK, there aren't any viruses out that can hit Mac OS X yet.
