Greetings all - I'm running Adium 1.3 on an Intel MacBook. It's been running great until a few days ago when I started to get the following error:
Error: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com: No address associated with nodename
At some point, it seems to right itself over the course of the day and I'm able to connect just fine but it seems to be random. I've tried new prefs and every other service has been and continues to work. Before I submit a bug report via trax I just wanted to see if anyone else has been experienced this recently and may have some tips? Thanks in advance.

Of course now it's up and running *sigh* (like I say - it's intermittent) but here is the terminal output:zac wrote:Can you runin Terminal and paste the output?Code: Select all

Re: YIM: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com
Update -- So I was having the issue with YIM earlier. Put the dig command in terminal and received the following:
Does that help?
Code: Select all
;; Truncated, retrying in TCP mode.
;; Connection to 192.168.1.1#53(192.168.1.1) for scs.msg.yahoo.com failed: connection refused. The Original Asada
Re: YIM: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com
Your router isn't responding properly to DNS requests. Check out http://opendns.com/ for getting set up on better servers.
Re: YIM: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com
I've used adium since 2004 and I've never needed to play with DNS servers. This issue came up 2 weeks ago, I believe around the 1.3.1 update (or whatever the last update was).
The issue is only at home. Not sure how, all of the sudden, my router hates the yahoo servers. Also, like the initial poster...this problem seems to be intermittent. but mostly it doesn't work. if it comes back on it's only there for 5min or so.. then gone again.
YahooIM works just fine. But I'm used to adium and would love to have it fully functional again.

Re: YIM: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com
If your router is responding with a "connection refused" like the OP, you're going to have to go the same route and use open DNS servers. There's no way Adium can resolve when the router's responding as such.

Re: YIM: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com
I too have recently started having this problem. looking around here is what I found so far.
http://www.networknewz.com/networknewz- ... zzler.html
Not quite the same because a windows machine gets it always.
But the link gave me some dig options to try.
dig +ignore shows the addresses.
So I learned my router only supports UDP connections. Now the question is why the packet is getting truncated and what does truncated mean?
I have a feeling it has to do with the packet being a different size then what it is claimed to be by the router.
So next time I have this issue I will start doing some packet sniffing and see if I can't find the culprit.
My router is a 2wire modem from qwest. I filed a trouble shooting ticket and am seeing what I can find out myself.
I could not get any other address to do the same thing. even the one mentioned in the link that seems to have what I think would be a bigger packet always seemed to work right. I'm thinking that yahoo servers might have a unicode character in them and maybe is causing a funny packet.
A second theory of mine makes me think it might have to do with the recent updates to the DNS phishing issue in Linux and Macs.

Re: YIM: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com
Thanks Zac... had no clue what your first post meant. Read through it again and changed the DNS IPs. I'm back on yahoo again.
Thanks.
Thanks.
