MSN bug in 1.3.2b1

Post by jedi58 »

Prior to version 1.3.2b1 I was able to see contacts using Microsoft Live Communication Service that I have in my MSN buddy list - however since I updated it today (which I think said had major changes to the MSN plugin) I can no longer see these contacts.

This is a known problem and LCS users aren't really using the msn protocol. Check http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/6755 & http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/48 for more information about this issue.

thanks Dimmuxx - guess I'll have to revert to the previous version of Adium since that supported LCS okay!!

I'm seeing what I think is the same problem.
Actually I haven't been able to log in the last day or so, just hearing adium's log in/log out sound repeatedly.
This is not a NEW issue i'm having with msnp15, sadly.
SO, just to make certain, YOU said it "quits", does that mean that adium shuts down, or do you mean that it logs you off again?

Running leopard here, I'm pretty sure this is a communication issue between pidgin <=> msn-servers

Now what's really worth trying is a little checkbox called "connect using http" found in the msn-account setup.
(just before someone else beats me to it)

Why this, all of a sudden should be nessesary I have no clue about, but it stops adium from the beforementionet login/logout cycle.

whether or not this actually works is hard for me to tell since atm no contacts seem to be online.

SLMalling: Try to disable "check for new emails" under your msn account settings.

OMG! That did it!
Yet another time you save the day, I can't thank you enough!

Side note: using connect via http: i only saw 1 of the 7 contacts online compared to the now working (without email check) msn

Glad I could help. :)

That might just be a side effect of the check for new mail bug. You can look at http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/11139 & http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/11114 if you wanna see more info about it.

hi, i'm having the same problem as the original poster, but to my knowledge i'm not using LCS (i don't even know what it is)..

since i started using the latest beta, msn contacts just don't show up. downgrading to 1.3.1 solved the issue.

does this have something to do with LCS too?

thanks

LCS is a Microsoft service used by some companies as it is compatible with Windows Messenger and uses the following protocols:

SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
SIMPLE (Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions) and
RTP (Real-Time Transport Protocol)

The point in it is that all messages sent from it can be logged directly to an MS-SQL database.

I was quite surprised that they'd change make such a change if it meant it'd cause so much trouble with people that have LCS contacts in their buddy list - seems a but of a daft thing to do from my point of view.

The problem is the check for new mails stuff and not LCS contacts. Disable that and your contact list will show up.
