GrowlMail Installation Fails

Post by mrrichards »

Maybe someone can help me out with this. Every time I try to install GrowlMail the installation fails. I checked the installer log and this is the error that comes up ...

: BomFileError 13: Permission denied - /Library/Mail/Bundles//GrowlMail.mailbundle
: Install failed: Some files for growlmail may not have been written correctly.

Anyone know a way around this problem? I would appreciate the help.
Thanks

After a bit of searching through the forums I found a solution to the problem by using a program called "Pacifist". It worked perfectly. You can find the steps here if you should happen to the have the same problem ...

As an alternative to installing Pacifist, which IMHO is a bit overkill, an administrator on the computer in question can fix this problem. Open the Library/Mail directory, then right click on the Bundles directory and Get Info. You'll note at the bottom of the window that you have read only access to the directory (Ownerships & Permissions). If it isn't already expanded, expand the details list. You'll see where the Owner is described as System and there is a lock. Clock on the lock to make changes, change the owner to whatever user name you are logged in as, then authenticate as an administrator. Then, run the installer. Worked perfectly for me when I had that problem.

IMPORTANT: make sure you return ownership of the directory back to the system and then make a note to yourself to fix permissions. MainMenu is a great tool to do this with.
