1.1.2 no subtitle any more...

Post by ahmad »

Hi, i used to have an older version of Perian running on my MacBookPRO/10.5.5/QT 7.5.5 and works with any .srt file on Quicktime with no problem, i cant actually remember what Perian version i had.. but.. since i upgraded to 1.1.2 no subtitle showed any more on Quicktime, even the files with there own subtitles that used to work before and still sitting on my HD stopped working...
I thought its something wrong with Perian 1.1.2, so i did download lower versions, 1.1.1 , 1.1 , 1.0 , installed each, tested with QT... my subtitles works no more... i even deleted Perian.prefPane from Library/PreferencePanes/ restart.. install old version... didnt help too, it even looks like it wasnt removed this way and had something still running even after i removed Perian.prefPane file
is there a way to totally remove perian and its preferences file or what so ever and install a fresh one?
or is there a way to fix this problem and make subtitle show back again on QT?

Thanks

i have this same problem as well. i have version 1.1.2 and quicktime 7.5.5. and the subtitles just don't load anymore. they are in the same folder with the same name (different extensions of course), and they used to work until i upgraded to quicktime 7.5.5 or perian to version 1.1.1.

i've tried reinstalling with no luck. However, the subtitles work with VLC player but not with Quicktime, could there be a conflict somehow?

i want to attach the srt file but it keeps on not letting me... why are there such strict rules against srt files in a forum where the discussion of them is so frequent?

Typically Perian discussion is done through the google group, but we have the forums as a convenience for those who work on the other projects hosted here.

yeah, its an .srt file, same name as QT file, but the ext. is different... as always.. it used to show before as the guys mentioned, but now after upgrade or even downgrade.. it wont work.. i really wish i didnt hit the upgrade button when it asked for it..
though, yeah, VLC still works with subtitle, btu i guess it doesnt use any perian thingy, cuz it was working for me with VLC before i even knew about perian, MPlayer still works, and Chroma, but, again, both deal with subtitles on there own..
so? any news? any fixes? any patch? anyway i downgrade perian and get it to work back again with QT? :\

Reread what I asked for, and then provide that.

its .avi file, and its an arabic subtitle file i downloaded from http://subscene.com/, you can downloaded any arabic subtitle file from there and it wont work (maybe with other languages too)..
Its not the .srt+.avi problems, because i have older files on my compuer that used to work before the upgrade to 1.1.2 and now they dont work any more, same files same OS same computer new perian...
p.s: i tested it with .mkv video files, and it doesnt work with subtitle any more.

I am having the same issue with Perian 1.1.3 and QuickTime Pro Version 7.5.5 (249.13). I have an AVI file, with accompanying english SRT file in the same directory path, when I open the avi file no subtitles appear. Under Window> Show Movie Properties Menu there is no srt track. I first installed QT Pro w Perian, I was able to see the subtitles but once I changed the srt file (changed the language to spanish) the subtitles were not being picked up anymore. I reverted back to the english subtitles that worked before and that no longer showed the subtitles. I have re-installed Perian, QT Pro with no success.
Running OS X 10.5.6
Any help would be appreacited>

Thanks,

Cecilio

Hello there,
I am trying to load subtitles as well (.ass, also tried with .srt) on a mov (qt photo-jpg) of the same name but nothing comes, neither in the view>subtitles, neither in the Movie Properties.
I am using Perian 1.1.3, QT 7.5.5, OS X 10.5.6
Any idea to fix this ?
Thanks a lot,
n.

the first lines of my .srt for info:
1
00:00:50,680 --> 00:00:53,800
Il yavait cette pensée initiale, la naissance

2
00:00:53,800 --> 00:00:58,120
une idée peut-être

3
00:00:58,120 --> 00:01:00,040
imaginée

4
00:01:00,040 --> 00:01:07,360
comme un point de départ pour un voyage indéfini

That makes the second SRT I've seen using , as a decimal separator, I'll fix it tonight.

you mean you will fix your own srt or Perian to accept decimal separator ? I don't think the decimal separator makes any difference, I've tried using .ass files instead of .srt and it just doesn't load. If i believe the previous posts, Perian 1.1.3 seems to not load subtitles properly.
I know the whole team is really busy, and thanks to them again for that. I'm just wondering if they acknowledge the problem or if the problem is just Cecilio's and mine.
I wish I could help..

Hi there,
I made further tests, I discovered that:
QT/Perian would load srt encoded in UTF-8 but not in UTF-16.
that subtitle load won't work over certain codecs. Why that ?

My mov is a QT photo-jpeg. I would like to keep my film at the same quality for a transfert on Betanum with subtitles.
Any idea what codec I should use and if there is a way to load subtitles over photo-jpg codec ?

By the way, would FCP load the subtitles that Perian is supposed to load ? Or should I look for another solution ?

Thanks a lot.

Perian.
I don't think the decimal separator makes any difference, I've tried using .ass files instead of .srt and it just doesn't load.
Try deleting ~/Library/Preferences/org.perian.Perian.plist.

UTF-16 subtitles should work with a BOM, but maybe not without one*; they can't be loaded automatically with MOV files due to how QuickTime works.

* probably a fixable bug in UniversalDetector

Thank you for your answer. By "can't be loaded automatically", do you mean it can be loaded manually ? How could I do that ?
