mail notification without Mail.app

Post by Yoc »

Hello,
Growlmail is great, but if I want to be notified of new mails on a mailbox hosted on an account not configured in Mail.app, what alternative do I have ?
I looked for a perl or unix script which output numbers and subjects of new mails without any success, and Macbiff has not been updated for years. do you know something else ?

In fact, we plan to use Kerio, and I want my colleagues to use the webmail as their main mail client (yes it's free and full of features, Entourrage is not), but the webmail doesn't offer any notification. I talked about growl on the forum of Kerio, but they don't seem to be ready to add any external notification system. One reason is that growl is only for mac, and webmail have to be multi platform, an argument that doesn't apply to us as we are mac exclusive.

Any idea ?

If you have shell access to the server that hosts the mail, you can use mumbles-send (from http://www.mumbles-project.org/) to send a growl-compatible notification. I have my home email server send me growl messages when a new email arrives. If you want to have a look at the scripts I used, let me know.
