Make outgoing text smaller, but format stuff same in window

Ok, I'm not quite sure how to explain this, but I'll try.

What I'd like is for me to send OUT 9pt Arial, but have it display larger on my own screen. I used to use Trillian on my PC (I'm a new Mac user and was unanimously directed to use Adium)and when I sent out text it appeared larger but others said it was small. Basically I want to have 9pt Arial outgoing messages to display on other computers, but still display standard Adium formatting on my Mac. Oh, and if it's not too much to ask, it would be great if Adium could "force convert" text into a standard font when displaying on my computer. Is that possible?

I think there are some bugs in Adium in this area. Another problem is that it's not possible to change the font size of incoming text in chats, when you select the font type yourself. I guess the best thing is to let Adium know about the problem..
