When I opened itunes today, perian told me there was an update available. I allowed the installation and it went smoothly.
There was a periancomponent file in my trash now, and I could not empty it. LSOF told me that both skype and ichat were using it. I quit both of these apps and was then able to empty my trash.
Perian updater should inform the user of apps using the component, and should quit them, before swapping the components. Or at the very least it should tell the user about this problem.
Feature: Perian updater should quit apps
Re: Feature: Perian updater should quit apps
It's better to just delete the component instead of putting it in the trash; OS X is perfectly fine with deleting open components, and it won't cause a problem. In fact, I already did that for the Uninstall button, why doesn't the update use that code?
Re: Feature: Perian updater should quit apps
Wasn't the updater made before the uninstall button?
Re: Feature: Perian updater should quit apps
It's fixed now. We might want to say something about restarting apps in the updater dialog, though.
