MSN Adium

Post by ootoovak »

Hello,

I'm trying to get some friends to convert over to Adium from MSN as I know it is better. The thing is I think one of the best ways to do this it to set up Adium for them so it looks as much like MSN (newist version preferable) as possible. That way it doesn't look to unfimiliar and scary for them.

Now my question is to you on this forum is:
What are the best AdiumXtras to achive this goal?

I haven't been able to find a contact list Xtra that emulates MSN yet. Anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks for the help.

screenies are screenshots.

Use Grab (Applications -> Utilities) or use shift+command+3 in any application. The latter will produce a PDF so convert it in Preview (Export…) before posting it somewhere ( http://www.imageshack.ws/ will work)

The best way is often Cmd-Shift-4, which lets you then drag a rectangle, and it just takes a picture of this rectangle. Or if you hit Cmd-Shift-4 and then the space bar, you can then click on any window to get a pic of just that window.

Ok! Lol, me dumb. Also I'm not sure what you want screenies of. The original MSN or my current Adium? Right now these are the Adium Xtras I have:

Contact List: Enhanced Tiger Layout - Enhanced Tiger Theme
Messages: MSN - Full MSN Large Icons
Dock - MSN Dock (can't remember the name)
Sound - MSN 6
Emoticons - MSN-Animated

The only thing that I'm really missing is the proper MSN contact list. The Messages window isn't exactlly the same but it is close enough (and better in my opinion). So does anyone have a MSN contact list Xtra around?

Yes excactly. I want Adium to look like MSN as much as possible to ease friends into using Adium. Hoping that making it familiar they come around and realize what a excellent program it is (and supiriour to the MSN client for OS X).

Plain and simple, I am looking for a Contact List Xtra for Adium that makes it look like a MSN messenger client.

Thanks for the help. :)

Yeah, so The_Tick suggested you post some screenshots of MSN Messenger, since a lot of forum users here don't have/use MSN Messenger so they won't know what it looks like. If you show people (using screenshots) exactly what you want Adium to look like, they'll be more likely to be able to help you. So just pop open MSN Messenger and post some screenshots of the contact list, message window, etc.

Please, post thumbnails or just the URLs... just do an Adium X(tras) search for "MSN" and some stuff should come up.
the sky is going to crush you.

Sorry kirk didn't know I will try edit that to urls.

Actually I found the search didn't work at all for some reason (using Safari maybe that's why?). Anyway I did find most things like MSN in the Xtras as stated above but the only thing missing is a MSN like contact list. Sorry if that wasn't clear from my previous post.

I apriciate the help anyone can give me. Alternatly I could make my own as I am somewhat computer adept but I'm not sure where to start in terms of disigning a contact list and I don't have too much time right now.

Thanks again. :)[/u]

Sorry about that, guess I went a little bit overboard

Fixed and fixed.

Yeah I had the same problem searching too, had to do it manually. Found everything but a MSN like contact list.

Someone made a set of MSN status icons at one point. I think they were just the ones taken straight from MSN Messenger. I think they are in the archive Zaudragon posted right after the .plist was updated for the .8 beta

Here: http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic. ... newest+svn

Those won't work with .77, you'll need the beta
