i'll agree with you sdh they are very clean, just thought they were rigid compared to the rounded metal windows
thats the point. everything is getting so round.
so this is a break from all that, some nice sharp clean lines.
so i think it should stay as it is.

but.. it would be awsome if in someway everyone would be able to edit them,
make own images that replaces them or something similiar..
ive looked in adium package contents, but i wasnt able to change them.

I'm confused. I thought we were trying to be mroe like the aqua look, but a couple posts ago, someone mentioned that about the rounded text input. I think it would be VERY mac os of Adium to redesign the message windows so they can accomidate for group and individual chats at once. That's making the layout sleek, concise, efficient, and simple... and that's what aqua is all about, not whether or not EVERYTHING uses drawers or tabs or rounded inputs. The current interface doesn't cope with the new features all too well, and it needs to be in some way changed.

Drawers have been considered, but eh. Single window mode probably will not make a return (your second mockup is that basically).

Drawer gets confusing.

Tabs are the rage. Look at Firefox, Safari, ADIUM, and more.

Drawers aren't as nice since they take up too much room (sorry if this was mentioned, I only skimmed the previous posts.)

it is true...seems like there's too much packed into the current interface...something's gotta change before it explodes-kinda-feeling...

It has changed.. I think it's great how it is in the beta's now.

The tabs won't go away, don't try arguing that route. Instead I'd suggest a good way to present the option of a drawer to the user, along with why having a drawer is a good thing.

do you mean, how to present it as a preference, or how to present the drawer as a gui element?

The point is to make the drawer appealing as an option, so use your best judgement.

The drawer would be especially nice because it could be easily hidden. The current "in window" side bar requires that you take up space anyways, and that space is right over the message view area.

Drawers would be at least great to replace the current side panel, though I maintain they are great altogether. Also, the tabs should atleast include the number of people in a group chat ie:

That's usually stuff set by the devs, but in this case I would hope those two features would be allowed

NOTE: WOULD BE ALLOWED. Not "are going to be allowed". discourse on whether or not it's going to be implemented was getting boring. Because ultimately, it's been apparently talked about before and there is no room for innovation, not even when the features demand it. So let Little_Tiger and I have our discussion on reasons FOR the drawer, and let the devs read it, they're going to make the decision anyways.

I agree, we can discuss this, and bring our ideas/requests, and wants into adium, maybe even make adiumx greater than it already is...
If we don't discuss things (with the devs) they will never know, what there member/user would like in thier project.

And as a programmer myself, if the devs tell me, that we did consider it, but it costs to much to gain so little, I will not go against them, cause not everytime is something easy to make...(code wise):d..

thanks

Right now I just want a clear and concise proposal created. This is in no way a promise of any feature being added, it would just help should a decision about something like this come in the future.

though I really like the idea of a drawer (I dislike the Adium tabs, they're not beautifull and not "self-explanatory") I think the person who said that there's too much in the adium interface is right.

At a certain point it's better to stop adding new things, and start making the existing things better.

So I would say the devs should choose between one of both, and maybe consider adding a plugin, that individual users can download and install to use a drawer instead of tabs.

So for me the proposal goes like this:
a plug-in that allows to remover the tabs and allows to add a drawer with all current chats. in multi-user chats the names should be intended. (like the mockup)

In what way are they not self-explanatory?

I like the tabs.

Just my two cents worth. ;)

Hmmm… how is a drawer better than tabs?

Since you have the contact list there in the window, how would you know WHO you were having conversations with? And what if the contact list was truncated and you could only see half of your contacts?
