Supress Growl notifications for buggy users

Post by Lars »

I have been testing Aadvark (http://www.vark.com) and I found that their bot keeps logging off and on. This triggers constant Growl notifications. I can set notifications for all users that sign on, but I haven't found a way to set "don't display any sign on/sign off Growl notifications for this particular user".

Is there a trick to do it? I have searched the forum, did find something about putting the contact in a different group... Could not get that to work. :???: Most people on my list are on stable connections luckily, but it might be handy for cases where people log in and log out continuously due to an iffy internet connection...

If the user is in your contact list you can control-click (right-click) on their name in the contact list and select "Get Info". Then click on the little red light icon to go to events and adjust the events just for that one contact.

Yes, I knew that. =-) But there are no options of use:

What I need is an option "don't do anything" / "don't display notification" or anything to supresses the Growl notification I have set for all users.

[edit: maybe I can hack it with 'show contact list' since that is never hidden on my system... will try it out]

[edit 2: doesn't work. Whatever's been set for all users take precedence over individual settings] >:o

I see what you mean. Yeah that's pretty useless. The only way around it is to set it for individual contacts I guess and leave the global setting alone. That sucks especially if you are like me and have over 300 contacts.

What you are looking to achieve is easy to do with groups. If you don't currently use groups, set them up, such as Friends, Business, Buggy, etc. Then drag each contact to one of the groups.

Next:
Camino > Preferences > Events
Contact Signs Off, delete the Growl notification. (I also deleted the make sound and all other notifications.)
Contact Signs On, delete the Growl notification. (I also deleted the make sound and all other notifications.)

Then, in the contact list, select the group, not one of the contacts in the group, right click to Info, and set the notifications as desired. For the Buggy group, set nothing.
