Send File...

Post by donelson »

Adium 1.3.4 running on 2GB Mac Dual G4 with OSX 10.4.11

I often use: Contact > Send File...

and it says that the file has been sent successfully. Unfortunately, no file actually appears to the person at the other end of the chat.

I've had them search their disks, in case the default storage path is weird - but no file has arrived.

I know that Yahoo --> Yahoo doesn't work, not sure about other combinations...

Does anyone know what this is all about?

Did their end ever see the file transfer occur? I'd be weary of it saying completed *and* not actually completing or showing up at all on the other side.

They were not aware of ANY activity on their end. If I send a file to my own account it works fine.

Hmmmmm

I think the file is being sent, but PC users are not able to figure out where the file is ending up on their disks.

I tried two "knowledgeable" friends today, and both of them got the test files I sent.

But since I have a Mac, the others always try to blame me, sigh. LOL

Nope. Many of them do not get a Save Dialog box at all on their screens, and searching for a test file shows that it did not appear at all on their PCs, in spite of the "completion" log in Adium.

Any ideas?

Thanks

around 90% of people I chat with get NO message that a file has been sent, even though Adium reports that it has been transferred.

This is with perhaps 20 different people on YIM, MSN and other systems.

Very few see any indication at all when I send files.

HELP!

Is there some sort of test I can do here? Perhaps only Mac users are getting files.

Did you check the dedicated Adium Wiki entry: http://trac.adium.im/wiki/FileTransfer?

Ah, I did a search for the menu item "Send File", but nothing was found.

I also looked in the Troubleshooting and FAQs and online via Google.

None of these gave me the page you mention.

Thanks for your help

Thanks. Is there a plug-in or some alternate for just Yahoo-Yahoo transfers?

There are no plugins for file transfers as far as I know. They are meant to work just like that.

When I have problems transferring a file by ICQ, AIM or the like I just use a hoster to upload my files, i.e. Rapidshare or Mediafire.

Hi, I'm using my AIM account on Adium to send a file to my friend who is using regular AIM. But I click send file, and it says he canceled the file transfer, when he actually didn't. What's going on? I used to send him files all the time when I used iChat. I'm on a Mac and he's on a PC, but that never used to be a problem.
