Option to display iChat audio and video status in Adium

Post by sogood »

Did a search on this forum but didn't see anything similar.

Just wondering if it's possible to pick up and display the audio/video status of iChat/AIM users. It would be handy to know eventhough Adium won't be able to directly participate in any of those media chats in the short term. The key here is to be able to fire up iChat as the situation dictates. :)

Nah don't think so.

Edit: Far too much work, pretty pointess. You will know their audio and or video status most probably when audio and video ability is implemented.

I am sorry to hear that this is too much work. I agree with the original poster that this would be quite useful. I can't imagine how you could call it pretty much useless. Anyway, keep up the great work, devs!

Well personally I just think, if ya need to video conference, fire up iChat ;), on reflection I do see your point, it would be kinda useful for people who like Adium but switch to iChat to audio a lot, but then you can always just ask the person you're talking to :D. However, I really can't see the devs doing this for a while, certainly seems little like no trace of it in .8, although I do remember that "My Webcam" screen in the SVN a few weeks ago, but I would have thought one of the devs would have mentioned it in terms of creating status icons or similar.

For a second I thought michael was one of the devs. Spoke with such authority on the amount of work required to implement a few status icons.

We have access to capabilities information over AIM though we don't make use of it... it's 99% useless, and would very misleading to most users to see "Capabilities: Voice Chat" and then have no way within Adium to actually initiate or accept the voice chat.
The duck still burns.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, considering you had access to the whole mobile thing for ages but the mobile string only just came in on the status packs thingy it seems like the sorta thing that isn't gonna be around for a while.

Thanks for the response.

And just because it may mislead some users, maybe entering it as an option would be appropriate. It's just another one of those functional fine points that's treasured by some but useless and meaningless to others.
