sound notifications ~ i'm pulling hair out!

hi everyone, sorry if this issue's been posted before. i promise i searched!
i recently installed 1.4b15 on teh cold kitty 10.6.2. i actually copied the various folders/plists from a working copy on my old leopard install, and then downloaded adium and then ran it. i was so excited, everything was working fine from growl to my chat window/ buddylist customizations. the only thing that's missing is sound notification. i've tried everything i can think of and no matter what i do, adium refused to play a sound for an event, regardless of what scheme is present. i've even redownloaded all the schemes, but to no avail =(

I've run into the same problem with both 1.3.10 and 1.4b17 after upgrading to SL, how about enlightening us as to the solution?

Problem was apparently related to Bluetooth; even though I wasn't using a headset for output, and all of my other system sounds played through the internal speakers as expected, I removed the BT headset I had configured and everything with Adium went back to normal.
