I've had this issue where Adium doesn't realize I'm offline right away. For example, if I'm on Ethernet, and unplug it, the buddy list remains in place for a good minute or two. Usually Google Talk notices first (and then signs off and signs back on), followed by AIM much later.
Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround to make the IM quicker at being aware of the connectivity? Sometimes when I'm typing a conversation to someone, the connectivity drops while the connection (Ethernet, Airport) still shows as connected, so I'm not aware that several of the outbound lines aren't actually making it through, despite Adium accepting them anyway.

I've seen similar issues myself and I believe this has been reported, too but so far I don't think enough information was provided to do anything about this. You could perhaps file a ticket on trac.adium.im.
