question about invisibility

I'm using Adium 0.8b10... I know that there are supposedly ways to go "invisible" if you compile all the source code, yadda yadda, but is there any way to go invisible with just 0.8b10 from the site? I looked everywhere, and I can't find a solid answer... as close as I can get is that it's a feature request that's coming, but I can't find it in the beta of 0.8. Thanks.

Its in the beta right now. Go to the status menu (or click on the EMD) and choose custom. Then from the menu where it says state, it should list available, away, and invisible. Choose invisible and click ok, and you should be all set.

EMD = Evil Menu Duck = Adium menu item, in case you're not up on the lingo of the message boards

I thought so, but all mines says for States is "Available" or "Away". I have the choice of Custom with the red or green gem, but I still only have "Available" and "Away"... hmm... what's going on? Should this be in the beta that I just downloaded straight from http://www.adiumx.com/beta
I trashed my prefs for AdiumX just to make sure all was well on that end...

well, I went Status Menu -> Custom Away -> Pull Down Menu in that Window -> Invisible to get to it. No idea why it wouldn't be there.

i would be easier if it was a separate status, instead of a part of the away status.

I agree. However, I also think the menu can get rather large, and adding another type of status wouldn't help. *I* kinda like the idea of having away, available, and invisible be submenus containing the saved states for each one. I can see that it's less than ideal either way though.

Invisible won't show up if you're not connected on a protocol which supports invisibility...

riiiiight! I guess my problem was that I was trying to SIGN IN as invisible... I wasn't connected first... Is that going to become an option, so I don't have to pop on as Away for a second before I go invisible?

i seem to be able to sign in (on msn) as invisible even when im not already connected on a protocol that supports invisability.

...so is it that only some protocols support signing in as invisible?

(also shouldn't this thread be in the beta forum so's not to confuse 0.77 ppl)
