My MSN buddies see me as offline!

I'm using Adium 1.3.10 in my OS X 10.6.2 and I've started having this extremely annoying problem: whenever I log in my MSN account, all my friends that were already logged in don't see me as an Available contact. I can talk to them normally, but they see me as Invisible, as if I was offline. All my friends that log in AFTER I logged in, see me as an Available contact, though.

It's like Adium is somehow failing to inform my online friends that I've just logged in... only when my friends log in after me they see me as Available.

I've already tried messing with my MSN account settings on Adium. I've read somewhere that if I used port 80 and connected using proxy type "Systemwide HTTPS Settings", it should work. But it didn't. Now I don't know what to do

Also, I've already tried wiping out the preferences as suggested in the Troubleshooting section.

The funny thing is when I connect using Beejive (the chat client I use on my iPhone) everything works fine, people see me as Available. The problems is specifically with Adium. People jsut see that I'm online when they connect after me.

The moderators will blame "libpurple" (the underlying communications stack) here. This has been broken for about 6 months with no progress here or in the the libpurple site at fixing it. The libpurple developers blame Microsoft.

FWIW, Trillian for Mac alpha works well, although there are a number of things missing still.

So that's it? "Use another client"? C'mon... I can't believe the moderators don't have a better answer than that.

I sometimes experience the same problem even though i can not confirm that the buddies who are online already wouldn't see me when i log in and those logging in after me always would see me. for me, it seems random: some see me when some do not whether they were logged in before me or logged in after me.
using Adium 1.4.b17 on mac os x 10.5.8.

i don't want to change to another messenger because adium normally rocks!

Could be, MS always seem to have localized problems from time to time.

It may be because the problem is localized to libpurple based clients

Or that. Just strange that it works for some regions, but not others, yes? Personally I *never* have MSN issues in Adium.

Localized?
My friend is experiencing that problem in Taiwan (OS X 10.6.3, Adium 1.3.10., Traditional Chinese version).
I have it in Switzerland (OS X 10.5.8, Adium 1.4.17b, German version).
