Yeah, Adium was more customizable than Adium X; however, privacy prefs are a pretty standard feature of an IM client and I'm sure they will make a return in Adium X at some point. Blocking was just the first step.

Archive.org is great for media also.

For instance, they have tons of video game speed runs. They're pretty fun to watch...

I miss this part:

Fast...
- Adium was designed from day 1 to be fast. After making the switch to Adium (from AOL's official client), your computer will feel faster - it's very noticable! The reason for this is Adium uses around 0% of your CPU. Leave it open all day, while working, or even while playing games.

Adium still uses 0% CPU in the background for me... It doesn't for you?

This is when I started using Adium...Pretty much right before Webkit took over, and the xtras became a big deal. Does that qualify me as a veteran? Haha.

I for one think the program has taken great strides, and is only getting better as the versions crank out. It's not said enough, but the developers deserve a great deal of credit for doing this for next to nothing - I can't imagine the few donations that go in add up to all that much.

So, Thanks!

You laugh, but dock bouncing was one of the major motivational factors towards the creation of Adium. I can hard-code dock bouncing on every received message like the AOL IM at the time if you'd like.

I would certainly consider the loss of block list support a fair tradeoff for the major advantages gained via the libgaim transition. Without that transition (which was the product of a shift in goals following Apple's announcement of iChat) and the benefits it provided, Adium's development would not have continued.

Do you actually believe this to be true? Maybe you should do a side by side comparison and show me how the old version of Adium were more customizable than what we have now.

Blame Apple for taking them out. I assume you mean visually, since functionally the new tabs blow what's pictured there away completely.

Is this actually what you believe? Adium still uses 0% in the background for me. If you're having an issue with CPU utilization you need to let us know and provide samples so we can remedy the problem.

I'm sorry. Look at my post count. I post a lot. Most of it is intelligent. Please forgive me if I say something stupid once in a while. It was late and I was not thinking straight. Sorry again. I suggest you delete all my posts from this thread.

my word!!! when i started this thread, i thought it to be a nostalgic trip, mind you didnt even know about adium till this very year (if its the year 2020 then we all live underwater, and have neat yellow scuba gear (a vague reference to an old cartoon show) but this refers to 2005,))

unfortunatly though looks like i started a haranguing on the achievements of old, instead of the neatness of the new, well if its any consolation, i was hanging out for Trillian for mac *HAAAAHAHAAHAHAHA*

Adam, you sounded kind of defensive there, like we were saying Adium is better than Adium X. I don't think this was anyone's intention, though. For many, the classic Adium is a historic relic which they've never seen in person, while for others (like me), it's just an interesting part of Adium's history. I often see it mentioned that Adium X isn't as wildly customizable as Adium was, but that that's for the best since crazy complicated prefs aren't always good. I didn't disagree with this. Now maybe you're right (you would be the person who would know about these things ;)) and Adium X has more features than Adium did, but I was under the impression that this wasn't necessarily true. In any case, I don't think we deserved the "get a grip on reality" that you snapped at us...unless I'm taking it the wrong way?

No hard feelings. And in case anyone was wondering, I think Adium X is loads better than Adium. It has progressed positively in almost every way. Great job guys :)
