Sending messages to offline MSN contacts?

Post by Grimsrud »

Is there any way at all to initiate conversations with offline users of Microsoft's terrible IM client? I have no trouble at all with receiving messages from offline users (I tested it) on my MSN account in Adium and I can send them back to them if they're the ones who started the conversation, but any time I try to send one from my Adium client to a junk account that is set to "Appear Offline" on aMSN, nothing goes through. I really, really like Adium (It's so much nicer looking and faster than aMSN), but it's not very useful to me if I cannot initiate conversations with offline/appear offline MSN users. Mercury Messenger and aMSN can send and receive online messages, but both of them are so ugly and buggy. However, this client looks great and I have yet to encounter a bug, I'd really like to be able to use it. Is there a plugin/add-on/configuration that will give me this feature?

Ok first of, what version of Adium are you using? I ask this simply because I'm pretty sure Adium has had proper offline messaging for quite some time now. Maybe try using the beta (beta.adium.im)
