just a suggestion, Adium could check to see if it's downloading from the X(tras) site, and automatically install if it is or prompt if it isn't (and a setting in prefs: prompt always/on foreign download/never)

That requires magic

However, the system discussed and already built allows you to click and download straight into Adium for install as well.
