How to view chat logs in windows or web browser

Post by los_angeles »

I have a mac at work w/ tons of chat logs. If I cannot set up remote access to these, I'll need to copy them to my home machine, which is running windows xp. I am happy to run the files through a converter, if necessary. After over an hour's searching, I cannot find a non-adium transcript viewer or a converter to something that can be viewed on a non-mac. Help please.... *very* frustrated.

all right, wtf! Do the coders of adium work here? Is there some reason there is nothing apparently that ports your xml to some kind of straight text? Is that why there are no current apps/scripts out there that will do this? Isn't there a demand for this? Isn't this technically possible and politically permitted? I have found an app url that proports to be for this, but it 404's. Would someone pleez effing give me some info? And, not just the flames I may have just wrought.

No they don't. They do have real life jobs, and do everything on Adium in their spare time. Also, most people don't check small forums like this more than once or twice a week, so don't expect an answer within 24 hours. And since we currently don't have many active developers, activity is even lower.

No one have made a converter apparently.

I guess not.

Of course it is.

Since you didn't bother to search the trac, I did it for you: No, we aren't going to deal with plain text logs anymore.
For Vienna issues: Please search Github before posting! Otherwise, file a bug report on Github.

I did search and wen't through the closest thread I could find on it, but it wasn't definitive. Thx for this one.

Ok, then... baaasic question... when i open up a chat log in a browser, it says there is no stylesheet associated with it, so can't render it in a way similar to the chat transcript viewer. No surprise, I guess. But, doesn't this mean that maybe the styles file is on my machine somewhere so the transcript viewer can use it? If it were in plain text and I could get it in scope for a browser, I could get this to render correctly in the browser, right? Obviously, I don't really understand xml completely.

For the remote access part, you can address that by using Dropbox (and symlinks for convenience) to keep Adium chat logs in sync between your computers. There are QuickLook plugins to view individual .chatlog files/bundles, but obviously, that's for OS X, so it doesn't address the case where you're trying to view it in another OS.
