Message was not sent because the system is unavailable. This

Post by detatched »

Hi,

I have had a couple of issues with using MSN on adium betas for a while now (maybe since b14?)

  • *99% of all users I add to my contact list never show online, and when I add them, every online existing contact loses their buddy name, and reverts back to displaying their email address with no display pic
  • *when I attempt to send messages to the newly added contact (they still appear as offline) i get the following error:

"Message was not sent because the system is unavailable. This normally happens when the user is blocked or does not exist."
Below is an extract of the Adium Logs when the error is presented:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"><soap:Header><Machine name="BY2MSG3010820" ver="9.45.4523.0" xmlns="http://messenger.msn.com/ws/2004/09/oim/" /></soap:Header><soap:Body><soap:Fault><faultcode xmlns:q0="http://messenger.msn.com/ws/2004/09/oim/">q0:SystemUnavailable</faultcode><faultstring>Exception of type 'System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException' was thrown.</faultstring><detail /></soap:Fault></soap:Body></soap:Envelope>
I know there are some key words in that error string.
  • when I log into another MSN client (meebo.com, amsn, official live messenger client for mac) a bunch of 'add' requests come up and i can see the people online and chat without issues
  • *I haven't blocked anyone, nor have they blocked me
  • *surely the MSN webservices can't be down exactly every time i add a contact.
any insights? unsure if this is a defect or a config issue on my end.

The bugs in the Adium tracker on this subject were closed without a fix. The problem is in libpurple (the chat connection library Adium uses). Unfortunately, the bugs on this subject filed there haven't been updated in about a year.

thanks for your reply (and thats a little disheartening)

is it worth raising a ticket there? (probably not im assuming)

is anyone else having these issues regularly or constantly?

Not sure really where to go next, I love using Adium, but its unusable to me in this state! And most of the alternatives on mac suck

detatched, you could try troubleshooting your preferences.
Are you connecting at home or from a corporate network? Might a firewall be interfering?
Do the problems occur with 1.3.10?

thraxisp, have you experienced these issues (because I haven't)?

Hi Robby,

Thanks for your reply.

Using Adium at home, tried a few different combinations (had all firewalls off, router in DMZ mode, reset firewalls to default, flushed DNS cache) all has made no difference to the issue.

Also tried the prefs troubleshooting - no luck there either.

Unfortunately Microsoft Messenger seems to be working fine with the same login (i.e none of the issues/errors is describe above)

Thanks again.
