Notes and Sound

Post by Gamerider »

Before using Adium I used things like Fire which had the option to turn the sound on and off in individual windows, while leaving the sound on for other windows. Also, there was a program-wide sound muter item you could put into your buddylist toolbar. Is there any possibility that these items will show up in future releases of Adium? And, if you haven't thought about it already, you should. I usually use it late at night when I'm talking actively to one person, and don't want to have to hear the noise of our conversation with my over-sensative late-night ears, but want to keep program sound on to listen for new messages from other people I may not be talking to. Having the option to turn sound off by individual window and/or tab made life so much more convient.

The second thing I'm about to ask for is a little abstract, but I think that it'd be a really cool feature. I've been trying to figure out how to make a script for it, but I haven't been able to do so. If someone wants to suggest a way to execute a script for this, that'd be fine too, but I think it'd be neat to see it just built-in.

What I'd like is the ability to place notes in chat windows that will NOT be sent to the person I'm talking to but would be saved in the chat log. That way, if I ever go back to read a chat log, I'd be able to find out what I was thinking, even if I wasn't telling the person I was talking to my exact thoughts. It'd be nifty if I could just type in an html-like command that went <note>My thoughts that I don't want the other person to know here</note>, or, in a script /note{Note to self}. I think a feature that did this would be excessivly useful while having conversations where you cannot necessarily reveal your exact thoughts, but want to note them for later on. Or perhaps you get a good idea from the topic and want to make a quick note right there in the chat that the other person won't see because they don't particularly care about it, but you don't want to use stickies because you want the conversation to be there when you reference the note. Even better, when you're having arguments (or are talking business...inexplicably they seem to go hand and hand) and want to make a note of why you're saying what you're saying so you can defend it or clarify it later on, it'd be nice to have a "note" feature to do so.

The sound issue could be solved by having some noise for first messages, but not for all messages. I use it like that.
I also have a very silent little noise for background messages. (almost unhearable, unless it's night and all is quiet)

The note thing could theoretically be done.
I'm bad at AppleScript, so I'm not going to try but here's how it could be done:
you enter the command, with the note as an option or write the note in a dialog box.
AppleScripts knows the date and who your're talking to and from what account (it does, right?) so it can locate the right file to edit.
Append this note to it
Save the file
And voilah!
