help what the heck?!?!

Post by bmwe46 »

hey i have a problem, i cant direct connect to other aim users, but thats because the option doesnt appear on any menu, and neither does talking over mic. i switched to adium b/c someone told me it did, and it accepts direct IM invitation, so is this a mac issue? when i accept a direct IM it never goes through and i cant envite anyone to direct IM with me so im guessing this is a mac issue... anyone know for sure?

if it turns out that adium doesnt support direct connect, or talk over IM then could one of you kindly direct me to a mac OS X app that does both of these?

What version of Adium are you using? I believe the 0.8 beta has made some progress towards direct IM. As for talking, this can't be implemented into Adium until gaim-vv is finished, which will be a while.

I have done a Mac to PC audio chat with trillian, it works, the quality isn't superb. But i am with Snarfer on this one, Skype has superior mac to PC audio quality. It's an excellent program.

Adium can sign on to AIM, Jabber, MSN, Yahoo, .Mac, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, ICQ, Sametime, Groupwise, and Zephyr all at the same time. Does that ruin the meal?

yeah kinda, thats why im looking for a adium alternative too, i had aim but i left it b/c it doesnt have voice chat, now i came to adium and it lacks voice chat AND direct connect! what i need is an Instant messanger that works with AIM and features both direct connect and voice chat, audio quality isnt that big of a deal, so i think im going to try trillian and hope for the best.

ok just looking through trillian im noticing somethings id like that its missing, first video chat is only in pro, and icon viewing is only in pro... guess im gonna have to go pro, but ill test out basic atleast for a bit... make sure it has everything i need before i invest lol.

unless anyone knows of a freebie that does everything i need... lol :D

Adium has direct connect, though it's not perfect yet.
