Display name refuses to change.

I've had this issue since installing Adium several years ago, but even though I have done everything that should be necessary to edit my display name to a nickname, it persists in registering as my real name that I signed up with to everyone but myself. I've gone to preferences and edited my display name individually for each account even, but it only shows the change to me, and everyone who messages me still sees my first and last name instead. Is there any way to change my display name so others will see what I wish to display as well, or is it stuck like this permanently? I'm sorry if there are already topics like this, or if the answer is obvious, but every topic I found so far merely says to go to preferences and edit the display name, which I've done multiple times to no avail.

Try updating Adium to 1.5.1. Where exactly in preferences are you editing this?

I'm using Adium 1.5.3 currently. Here's where I'm updating:

Though the display name says what I wish it to say, that isn't what other people see.

Is this with MSN?

It's with MSN and AIM, yes.

I just did a quick test.

- Changing my MSN display name worked in both attempts. A contact using Adium was able to confirm that.
- Changing my AIM Alias did not work.
