ViennaBeta closing immediately

Post by mobopro »

I've been using ViennaBeta (3.x) for a while now. Suddenly when I try to run it, the icon will briefly bounce and then immediately end. There are no clues in Console.

I was running 3.0b.2820, then installed 3.0b.2819, hoping that'd fix it -- no luck. I've wiped out uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2.plist in my ~/Library/Preferences, too. No luck. Any suggestions?

I've had this a few times, the most likely problem is that your database is fried

You can try and see if it's related to the database by renaming the database file, so Vienna will start with a new, fresh database.

The database is located in /Users/your-short-username/Library/Application Support/Vienna/, look for the file named messages.db. Rename it to something else, and see if Vienna will start again.

There are ways to fix your database, but they don't always work (at least for me they didn't). I've reverted back to earlier databases to solve this problem.

Thank you! Yep, the messages.db file must have become corrupt. This should go in a FAQ somewhere, the files Vienna uses, so it's clear how to do a full reinstall -- especially with the beta.

No, that is why it is a beta. It is not meant for end users such as yourself, who doesn't know how to troubleshoot.
For Vienna issues: Please search Github before posting! Otherwise, file a bug report on Github.
