Persistant Program Lock-ups

Post by Mr. Worm »

Hello, I've been having a presistant problem with Adium as of late. (I think it first started to act odd at about the third release client of Adium.)

The program can and sometimes does lock up at doing anything and everything. Sometimes, if I check the away messages of others, I'll get a pinwheel of death. Likewise, if I type in an away message or a message to another user, it'll lock up, sometimes with the pinwheel spinning for minutes.

It happens at random times. I don't understand it. iChat and AIM both work fine. To make sure the preferences weren't corrupt, I changed the "Adium 2.0" to "Adium 2.0-old" as par the instructions from Mr. Iser.

Maybe you'd like some system stats:
Mac OS X 10.3.6
900 MHz G3 processor
256 MB RAM
12.73 GB free of 37.13 GB
Adium 0.72 (Although it says "Adium 0.71" in About...)
Dual-USB iBook (one of the ones with the messy logic board problems)

Thanks.

Third Release Client mean rc3, I believe.

Also, if it doesn't say 0.72 in the About, it's not 0.72 :P Download it from our website, http://www.adiumx.com Hopefully that will fix your problem :) *crosses fingers*

This happens when opening the image picker to change my icon or see another user's. I mentioned it before on the old forums. This started with 0.72, it's ok in 0.71.

Actually, I've downloaded the .dmg twice just to make sure, but it still says it's 0.71...

The newest release will say 0.72 in the about box. Are you sure you're getting the new version off the .dmg correctly and that the dock isn't loading an old one from the trash or somewhere else on your machine?

Yeah, this is what went wrong. When I kept dragging from the disk image to the Applications folder, it just kept the 0.71 and ignored the 0.72 version. I deleted 0.71, and dragged 0.72 and it works.

It seems to be all fixed now. Thank you all.

The Activity Monitor program in Applications/Utilities can run a Sample (Process->Sample) on Adium. Do this while it's pinwheeling and email the resulting file to bugs@adiumx.com.
The duck still burns.

Do you have any applescript filters that query something off the internet or anything in your away message or profile?

Done and done.

I haven't added anything. Unless you are refering to the scripts such as %_artist or something, which I have in my away message occasionally, it's like it was when I downloaded it.
