statuses and 0.80
Hey-
I REALLY like 0.80. I do have one mild request about the statuses, though most of the new implementation is most excellent.
I, with Adium X <0.80, used to keep a bunch of random, half complete away messages which I would select out of the old window and then append to the bottom my location. i was wondering if there were some way to support something like this in 0.80. it seems to me that the only way to do this right now is to go away with the half-message, copy it out of the status window, and then create a new custom message and append to the bottom of it my location or something like that.
so two questions, really:
1) am i missing an easier way to do this?
2) if not, could you maybe, instead of bringing back the old status window, add a button to the status window that displays (if you have it selected to display) that allows you to edit the saved message?
thanks! 0.80 is perfect otherwise.

I wish the "Custom..." away message option was at the top, rather than at the bottom. I have a lot of saved away messages and it's annoying to have to scroll down to the very bottom every time I want to make a new away message.
Also, when I have an away message up and got a message that I wanted to respond to without taking my away message down, I used to be able to click on the message window and make that the active window, with the away message window behind it. (I like my away message window centered on the screen.) Now the away message window remains in front.

Ok I figured out how to make my bubbles bigure... it was a mere issue of changing the font size in the style-layout. Now as for the other issues, i'm dissapointed you won't put the away thing back on the file menu but i guess i understand as it seems to be part of your new advanced away message creation systemization. I really think its a lot more complicated than it should be, however. away messages should be simple in my opinion.
I have another very important request now:
at the bottom of every window (even if you don't used tabbed messaging), there is a single tab thingy showing the user you're currently talking to. Is there any way to remove that when tabbed browsing is not being used? Its really... i don't even know how to say it... unnessecary, and confusing, and well... ugly.... If you aren't using tabbed message browsing i think that when the other person is typing it should show it as a little pencil next to their name (like in 0.77), and not at the bottom. That tab is completely unnessecary when tabbed messaging is not in use.

Disable "Always show tab bar" in the advanced preferences, Messages category.batkinz wrote:I have another very important request now:

here's what i'm missing the most:
in older versions, when a contact goes on- or offline the name would be shown on the dock icon. this mean that i could just hit command-tab to bring up the app switcher (and large versions of the dock icons) to see who had just come/gone. now, i have to actually switch to adium to bring the window forward to see that...

oops! missed that. i must admit i do prefer the new preferences, just takes some time to get used to..evands wrote:Events preferences againoliverchaddock wrote:here's what i'm missing the most:

Much more flexible than the old way.
Doesn't seem like anyone else has asked about it, so I'll bring it up. What happened to seeing the first few words of people's away messages after their name? Given that just about everything else (except the broken away/idle signs in the dock) seems to have been a new preference option, is there a way to get it back?
Given how often my friends change their away messages, it'd be nice to know what they are...
While this, plus the broken dock icon, may be enough to send me back to 0.77, the new menu extra is excellent -- it's a pity the other things kind of overwhelm it.

I agree. Setting a custom message isn't the same. I like to go on and off idle while having the same away message up.danielsh wrote:More than anything else, I miss "Set Idle". The "Appear Idle Immediately" function just doesn't work as well... it looks rather unconvincing to suddenly be idle for ten minutes, and I have to reset it every time I go away.

When I select "custom" the default is available... which i don't like.Adam Iser wrote:The default is away if you select the Custom... with the away icon next to it (Or press the Cmd-Y shortcut).phil333 wrote:I also don't like that when setting a custom message, the default is me being "available" as opposed to away. Not many people put up custom messages for being available, usually for being away.
If I use the Cmd-Y shortcut the default is occupied.
I rarely, if ever use the shortcut so i find it really aggrivating that the default is available when going through the menu.
yeah, same here.. is there an option to change that back or are we stuck with it? [[shrug]] if not, well, we'll live.. just something I finally realized wasn't just my computer spazzing out on me, and was really happening. =/phil333 wrote:I miss that when I have a buddies window open and they go away, it says their away message that they put up in the buddy window. Now it just says they went away. I really don't like that.

i would use an updated one, but sadly their are no good msg styles out that have been updated for v0.8 yet.jstamos wrote:Updated message styles do have the away message in the box. Please use one that has been updated for .8.
not even plastic, which comes with v0.8, shows available/away changes in the msg window and thats the only half decent msg style right now.
i miss metal chat 2
I may be in a small minority of people who used this feature, but it's driving me nuts that I can't figure out how to get Adium to speak my incoming messages. I used it all the time and miss it terribly now that I don't have it. I was hoping to find it under Events, but it looked like I could only tell it to speak that I had a message, or whatever specific text I wanted to have it speak.
If this is still possible in Adium .80, could someone please let me know? And if not, could you guys please please please bring it back in the next release?
