Unread Articles don't display

Post by mobopro »

I'm running Vienna version 3.0.0 Beta 9 :b47bfca:. Somehow I'm in a state where I see there are new articles, but they don't display in the Unread Articles smart folder.

For a while even though it showed in the left column that there were 9 new articles for one of the feeds, when I selected that feed nothing would be listed at all either -- but I found by deleting the feed and re-adding it they showed up again, though still not in the Unread Articles smart folder.

How can I fix this? If I have to wipe Vienna clean again, is there a way to preserve my list of feeds without having to add them all one by one again?

I see this at times, usually a second refresh will make the new articles appear.

Not in this case, I'm afraid. No matter how many times I refresh or restart I don't see any articles.

The Unread Articles smart folder has simply stopped working for me.

Double click on it, to check if its definition hasn't been changed.

Its definition is like this:

Show all articles that match ALL of the following conditions:
READ is NO

Note that if I change it to:
READ is YES

I get a long list of the read articles. When I switch it back to NO, there's nothing in the list, even though several feeds currently have unread articles.

Do individual feeds show articles, when the "Unread articles" filter is activated ?

If you create a new smart folder using the same definition than the "Uneread Articles" one, do you notice any change ?

Yes, completely weird… Your database has probably been damaged by a previous beta. Beta 9 seems much surer, though...

If you want to restart from a clean database, I'd recommend the following steps :

- Use "File->Export Subscriptions" ; select both options "Export all subscriptions" and "Preserve group folders in exported file"
- Quit Vienna
- Delete (or, better, rename) the ~/Library/Application Support/Vienna/messages.db file
- Relaunch Vienna
- Delete the default subscriptions
- Use "File->Update Subscriptions From Google Reader" ; wait a few seconds.
- Use "File->Import Subscriptions", and point to the file saved at the first step.

You will have to do a bit of folder reordering after that.
