Subscriptions and Articles GONE

Post by Mojo »

When my Mac Mini started-up this morning the Vienna finder menu bar icon was gray and all subscriptions/unread articles are gone. The sidebar that would normally list all my subscriptions is empty. When I shut-down the Mac last night Vienna was running fine.

I do not sync Vienna with Google Reader.I have recent Time Machine backups. I tried replacing the current files in User/Library/Application Support with a copy from when Vienna was running normally yesterday. It didn't fix the problem and I tried three files from different backups. I also tried the same thing with a SuperDuper! backup file. All the necessary data appears to be present in the folders.

I've tried running Vienna 2.6.0 and 3.0.0 Beta 9; the problem is the same.

That's my tale of woe and I am stumped as to how to proceed.

It is really strange that the restore does not do the trick…

Try also trashing or restoring the preferences file. ~/Library/Preferences/uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2.plist

I tried deleting that file but still No Joy. I also have a dozen or so additional preference files with names like uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2.plist.1QwacSh. I also tried deleting those and it didn't work either.

When I try to export my Vienna subscriptions I get an empty .opml file. I see a bunch of .xml files in the Sources folder that look like subscriptions. Strange...

I also have Vienna installed on my MacBook Pro so I exported its subscriptions and tried importing them into Vienna Beta 3 on my Mac Mini. I got a window that said that the subscriptions were successfully imported but the Vienna window remains empty. But when I imported the same .opml into NetNewsWire they show up as expected.

Also: Adding new subscriptions does not work even though Vienna is my default RSS reader. NetNewsWire works fine...

When I try to open one of the .xml files I see this:

Your database is damaged.
Delete ~/Library/Application Support/Vienna/messages.db

Reimport the subscriptions.

Can you upgrade to 10.6.8 ? Otherwise, try Vienna Beta 9.

An issue similar to what you describe is being solved for 10.5
