How to delete cookies?

Post by snowrabbit »

I'm running Vienna 3 beta on a MacBook Pro 2010 10.6.8 and 10.8.1 on two separate machines. I'm so sorry for this elementary question, but I'm a bit of a n00b to both the program and these forums. I tried searching the forum, and it returned bug reports about Trash, Safari, and Cookies. (I'm pretty sure I did the search wrong, though, because I couldn't get an advanced search field.)

Where's the option to delete cookies? And is there a way for it to automatically delete all cookies on close? Or are those options in development?

Thanks!

The situation is not completely clear because Apple's intention is clearly to increase security (sandboxing and so on), but one can summarize that currently, there is a single cookie jar for Webkit applications.

So you can manage cookies with Safari's settings for privacy.

Correct me if I am wrong.

So would using Firefox and Chrome's settings work? I'm not a huge fan of Safari.

No, the cookie jar I referred to is only used by applications using Apple's Webkit.

Firefox is not a Webkit app.
Chrome uses Webkit, but brings its own version. So, as far as I know, it does not share its cookies with Vienna.
And there isn't even a decent cookie manager in Chrome. Not surprising, given that advertising is Google's main source of revenue...

I just use incognito mode for Chrome. Isn't that good enough, especially when combined with flash and script blockers? (I don't have a tech background, so I really don't know these things.)

Anyway, what's the best way to delete the cookies and scripts from Vienna?

Thanks!

hi snowrabbit - just confirming what barijaona mentioned... all cookies, local data, cache, etc. for any RSS article reading or web browsing done in Vienna can, at this time, only be managed through the Safari browser Privacy dialog, regardless of what your system default/main browser of choice is, or if you have configured Vienna to open links/full articles in an external browser.

So, in order to remove such items after using Vienna, just launch Safari, choose the Privacy menu, and click "Remove All Website Data."

I do this every time after I quit the Vienna app.

Hope this answers your question.
