Story only displays in the preview pane after scrolling
Hi,
I am using version 3.0.0 RC 3. When I select a news story from the list of stories, it does not open in the preview pane. That is, of course, until I scroll the story list. I am attaching a MOV file which demonstrates this.
This just started happening on its own. I leave Vienna running all the time and the last time I used it (10 hours ago), it was working fine so I can't really give you the steps to reproduce the problem.

Re: Story only displays in the preview pane after scrolling
Have you tested the different options in the "View -> Layout" menu ? Do you see similar oddities ?

Re: Story only displays in the preview pane after scrolling
I'm seeing this same issue. I believe I first saw it around RC2, and still see it in RC4.
It seems to happen after my MBP goes into sleep mode with Vienna running, and then wakes up from sleep... after that, the Preview pane doesn't seem to update when I click stories, yet it marks the story as read. I have to quit and restart to see actual story contents.
I was using the Horizontal layout previously. I switched to Vertical to see if that fixes it.

@makoto99 : when the problem appears, what happens if you switch to another folder, then reselect the problematic one ?

Re: Story only displays in the preview pane after scrolling
It does not work anywhere. If I switch to another folder, I still have to scroll to see a news story. If I switch back to the previous folder, I still have to scroll. This problem happened again yesterday. I switched layouts from Horizontal to Vertical and the problem persisted. I switched back to Horizontal and no joy. The only way to fix this problem was to terminate the program and restart.
Re: Story only displays in the preview pane after scrolling
For me, I switched to Vertical Layout and so far, the problem hasn't recurred, so it seems like a temporary solution at least.barijaona wrote:@makoto99 : when the problem appears, what happens if you switch to another folder, then reselect the problematic one ?
As for the question itself - switching to another folder/smartfolder/etc. didn't do anything for me, in and of itself. However, I didn't try scrolling the display as jbirkenmaier mentioned worked.
I'll switch back to Horizontal layout and let it sit overnight to see if the problem comes back, and if so I'll try switching to a folder with many stories and try scrolling it to see if it behaves the same way he described.
Re: Story only displays in the preview pane after scrolling
It occurred again, in Horizontal Layout.
I changed to another folder and clicked some articles - no change, it still didn't update.
I changed to Vertical Layout - that didn't fix it either. When I quit and restarted (in Vertical) it then worked fine.
It seems to be something about Horizontal layout that gets stuck, then after that it doesn't update properly. But, if I start Vienna in Vertical, it seems to be fine (or at least, I haven't seen the issue when I start in Vertical).

Re: Story only displays in the preview pane after scrolling
@makoto99 : did you try scrolling the list, to verify if doing that updates the article pane ?
Also, when the problem reoccurs, you can try slightly resizing the window.

Yes, scrolling causes it to update. Also, resizing the window causes it to update.
Re: Story only displays in the preview pane after scrolling
I did some more fiddling around with this. Although it works better in Vertical Layout, it did occur with my app in Vertical just now.
I also noticed that even though the headline/body don't update the display, they DO update as far as linking to content goes. Once it got "stuck", I clicked on a new story in the list. Then I clicked on the headline of that new story, and even though it still displayed the first headline/content in the Preview Pane, it still opened the URL for the new one that I'd switched to. So, it seems to be purely a display refresh issue, as the actual loaded content seems to change behind the curtains.
