Adium asks to install growl, do I?

Adium just asked me to install Growl, do I need to, can Adium still do basic even notify without it?

I installed it and then removed the pref pane and startup item listed, is that all it takes to remove it?

you don't *need* to do it, you can live without it.
Adium can't show little windows with events. you can still use the sounds and speech and others.

But you could leave it on your system and not use it for Adium. Another application might like it. It really is handy, even though it has way too little configuration options.

So this is new? In the past I needed no Growl to get Event bezels, now I need Growl to make this happen?

I see in Events Prefs for Adium there is an event "Contact Returns From Away" which is set to "Display Growl Notification"

I am assuming, correct, I hope, that since I do not have Growl, that even will simply not work? Should it not be greyed out of Grown is not installed?

How do I get Adium to ask me to install Grown again?

If you checked do not show again, it won't. If you just clicked cancel when prompted to install, it'll prompt you next time it wants to show one after you've quit and restarted Adium (by design if you say no it doesn't bug you for the rest of that Adium session).

I did not tell it to not bug me again. I have been using Adium for 1 day now, it took all day to get the first alert, so its just a waiting game, it will eventually tell me to install growl?

I kind of was hoping, if you have time, to see a reply to each of these, if not, no worries, and thanks again for the great app, it makes me want to use IM more and more, encryption is just icing, thanks so much.

either you have chosen never to see it again, you wont, otherwise as evands says, it will ask you again next time it wants to show one.
You could force this by making a growl notification when you connect, then disconnect and reconnect.

If you don't see the install dialog again, you can install growl manuall from http://www.growl.info I think Adium will recognize it!

You DO need growl for the bezels. There is no way to have a bezel without Growl.

It's a correct thing that it would be weird if you can select growl notifications if growl isn't installed. -> devs???
