You're talking about the built-in notifications. Growl is better; it's more customizable. Adium 0.7x didn't need Growl unless you used the Growl plugin. Adium 0.7x used its own system, separtae from Growl's or anything else.donkei wrote:oh ya, and Adium 0.77 can place Bubble in the center on my screen. what was Adium 0.77 actually using to do this? is there any alternatives than Growl?
There is iAlert, but I forgot the link; look on Apple's downloads.
The Growl with Adium installs a preference pane into ~/Library/PreferencePanes. Once that happens, and Growl starts it writes some preferences out like any normal app does. None of your important files are modified.donkei wrote:so..does Growl do anything with my system that probably modifyes important files or so?
We don't use things like .Ape that cause most apple techs to say things like that. We use a built in thing with OS X that allows the notifications to be passed back and forth. Honestly your machine is fine either way.donkei wrote: I'm just afraid since 1 of the apple center guy ever told me if I installed application that modifyes system it usually makes problem when I upgrade because of compatibility issue..
Growl's Bezel can be set to be in the middle if you like. We'll have better positioning in .7 or .8 of Growl.
