How can 0.77 had Growl without installing it first?

How can 0.77 had Growl without installing it first?

in 0.80 and 0.81 we must install growl if we want to use it, but how can 0.77 had Growl without installing it first?

does GROWL do anything changing my system files etc etc? I'm just fraud it will mess up my system :P

oh ya, and Adium 0.77 can place Bubble in the center on my screen. what was Adium 0.77 actually using to do this? is there any alternatives than Growl?

You're talking about the built-in notifications. Growl is better; it's more customizable. Adium 0.7x didn't need Growl unless you used the Growl plugin. Adium 0.7x used its own system, separtae from Growl's or anything else.

There is iAlert, but I forgot the link; look on Apple's downloads.

so..does Growl do anything with my system that probably modifyes important files or so?
I'm just afraid since 1 of the apple center guy ever told me if I installed application that modifyes system it usually makes problem when I upgrade because of compatibility issue..

The Growl with Adium installs a preference pane into ~/Library/PreferencePanes. Once that happens, and Growl starts it writes some preferences out like any normal app does. None of your important files are modified.

We don't use things like .Ape that cause most apple techs to say things like that. We use a built in thing with OS X that allows the notifications to be passed back and forth. Honestly your machine is fine either way.


Growl's Bezel can be set to be in the middle if you like. We'll have better positioning in .7 or .8 of Growl.

because yesterday I just reformatted and reinstalled Tiger, and I dont wanna mess up aruond anymore with my system - becoming extra careful with everything I do :P
